Murat Karayılan, a leader of the terrorist organization PKK, spoke about the possible "call to lay down arms" that may be made by the organization's leader, Abdullah Öcalan. Karayılan stated regarding the disarmament process, "As long as Öcalan himself does not intervene, nothing will happen with just a video call."
Devlet Bahçeli's statement on October 22 at the MHP Group Meeting in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, addressing Öcalan, "If the isolation of the terrorist leader is lifted, let him come and speak at the DEM Party Group Meeting in the Grand National Assembly. Let him proclaim that terrorism has completely ended and that the organization has been dissolved," initiated a process that continued with the DEM Party's visits to İmralı. During this process, it was expressed that representatives of the ruling party expected Öcalan to make a call for the unconditional laying down of arms, while it was emphasized from the DEM Party side that they approached the process positively and that Öcalan had given positive messages. Recently, it was claimed that Öcalan would make a call soon, and that this could be a video message.
While the eyes are turned to Öcalan's upcoming call, Murat Karayılan, one of the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization PKK, made evaluations about the process. Regarding Öcalan's possible call, Karayılan stated, "As long as the person who created this ideology, Abdullah Öcalan himself, does not intervene and does not speak with these friends, it will not be enough to just have a video call."
Karayılan summarized his thoughts as follows: "AKP officials, the last being AKP spokesperson Ömer Çelik, have spoken and said, 'Öcalan should make a call to lay down arms.' Let's say Abdullah Öcalan made a call. Well, can this issue be resolved with just one call? We are a movement with tens of thousands of armed forces. And this force is not one that will come for money; it is not a force that will immediately do what is told when its salary is cut and told to 'go home.' As long as he does not intervene and does not speak with these friends, it will not be enough to just have a video call.
"THIS IS NOT A ORDINARY ISSUE"
There is a need for a decision to lay down arms. For example, a congress decision is necessary. The PKK Congress needs to convene and make such a decision. Who can do all of this? Apo can do it; he can make a call for a congress; when the congress convenes, he can speak at the congress. Even if he is not physically present, he can send messages many times. This is not an ordinary issue."
