The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry made a statement regarding claims that "pork has been classified as a type of meat for butchers," which have also appeared in some media outlets. In the statement from the ministry, it was emphasized that there is no definition or reference to pork in the legislation, and that the news does not reflect the truth.

Turkey has been discussing the pork found in the meats of a famous meatball chain for the last 2 days. Allegedly, the company obtained a court order to hide its name from the list shared by the ministry.

CONTROVERSIAL CLAIM

While the discussions continue, some social media accounts shared posts claiming that pork was classified as butcher meat during the AK Party period.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY

In a statement made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry following the claims, it was stated that there is no definition or reference to pork in the legislation and that the news does not reflect the truth.

"THERE IS NO SUCH DEFINITION OR REFERENCE IN THE NOTIFICATION"

The ministry's statement included the following expressions; "The Turkish Food Codex Raw Red Meat and Prepared Red Meat Mixtures Notification, which has been circulated on some social media accounts as 'pork being classified as butcher meats', is not in effect. There is no definition, expression, or reference to pork in the currently effective Turkish Food Codex Meat, Prepared Meat Mixtures Notification."

All inspections carried out by our ministry are conducted meticulously within the framework of this and other legislative provisions. The disinformation, manipulation, slander, and lies made on social media regarding this issue do not reflect the truth."
