Retirement pension debate in AK Party: EYT was the most wrong step

While retirees were expecting an increase in their pensions above inflation, a disagreement arose during a meeting held in the AK Party. During the discussion on the increase in retirement pensions, the idea that "the most wrong step regarding retirement was EYT" dominated the meeting.

As the time for determining retirement pensions approaches, retirees who expect an increase above inflation turned their attention to the government's decision. While various ideas were put forward in the corridors and public opinion regarding the increase in retirement pensions, the debate that took place at the AK Party meeting drew attention.

DISCUSSION ARISES OVER INCREASE IN RETIREMENT PENSIONS

The AK Party, which lost its status as the first party in the 2024 local elections, held a self-criticism meeting regarding the local elections for the 5th time. The meeting discussed what needs to be done to regain the trust of the voters. During the meeting, where the increase rate of retirement pensions in July was also discussed, a disagreement arose and tensions escalated. The idea that "the most wrong step regarding retirement was EYT" dominated the meeting.

"HOW WILL YOU DO THIS WITH WHICH SOURCE?"

The consultations between AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler and the members of parliament regarding the election results have been completed. According to the information obtained, the main reasons for the election failure were determined as high cost of living, problems in hospital appointments, mistakes during the campaign process, failure to make correct candidate selections, and the reluctance of the organizations.

According to a news article in Türkiye Gazetesi, during the meeting, the MPs who expressed that retirees should receive an increase above inflation in July faced reactions. However, objections were raised to this proposal with the reason "How will you do this with which source? The situation is clear. The most wrong step regarding retirement was EYT. We are currently paying the price for it. Such proposals are not in the best interest of the country."

THE LOWEST RETIREMENT PENSION CAN BE 12,500 TL

While the discussion about the increase rate of retirement pensions creates controversy in the corridors, it is also on the agenda of experts. In contrast to the government side, SGK Specialist Ali Tezel made positive evaluations regarding the increase rate of retirement pensions.

Tezel stated that the inflation difference for the increase in retirement pensions in July is 18.72%, and this increase will slightly improve the purchasing power of retirees.

Tezel also made evaluations regarding the welfare share and stated that a 25% increase will be made to retirees in July, and the welfare share is not possible. Tezel stated that the lowest retirement pension could be 12,500 TL, and a cautious approach is being taken regarding the increase, and efforts are being made to improve the living standards of retirees.
