The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed fines on 5 broadcasters, including TELE 1, where a scandalous caption was aired.

In a meeting held today, RTÜK evaluated the broadcasting violations of television channels. In the meeting, 5 channels were fined for reasons including: 'Not respecting human dignity and the privacy of personal life', 'Containing derogatory, humiliating, or defamatory statements beyond the limits of criticism in their broadcasts', 'Not adhering to the principles of neutrality, reality, and accuracy', 'Obstructing the free formation of opinions in society', 'Broadcasting news that can be investigated without ensuring its accuracy', and 'Making broadcasts contrary to the principles of the rule of law, justice, and impartiality'.

PENALTY FOR SCANDALOUS CAPTION

In the Supreme Council meeting, it was emphasized that the caption displayed in the program titled 'Turkey's Direction' aired on TELE1, which read 'What is the difference between RTE and Netanyahu', contained statements that were derogatory and defamatory beyond the limits of criticism.

For this reason, the news channel that aired the program was fined at the upper limit. The same news channel was also fined at the upper limit due to journalist Merdan Yanardağ's statement in the program titled '4 Questions 4 Answers' that 'There are many traitors among the Alevis'.

PENALTY FOR 'COUP ATTEMPT' COMPARISON

In the Supreme Council, it was discussed that in the program titled 'The Essence of the Word', CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır and CHP Istanbul Deputy Cemal Enginyurt described Gürsel Tekin's appointment as Istanbul Provincial Chairman by the court and the security measures taken by the police in front of the CHP provincial building as a 'coup attempt'. It was determined that in the relevant broadcast, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the government were portrayed as the perpetrators of coup attempt allegations. For these reasons, it was decided to impose a fine at the upper limit on the relevant channel.

ACTION TAKEN FOR REMARKS TOWARDS BAHÇELİ

In the program titled 'Clearly', it was determined that Murat Kubilay's statements towards MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli were derogatory and discrediting beyond criticizing institutions and individuals. For this reason, the relevant channel was fined at the upper limit. In the program titled 'Special Agenda with Eylül Han', the sharing of allegations made by CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz regarding the Turkey-Iraq crude oil pipeline with the audience was also discussed in the Supreme Council meeting.

The channel that aired these allegations, which were denied by the Communication Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center, was fined at the upper limit. In the Supreme Council meeting, the failure to comply with the broadcast ban regarding the attack that occurred in İzmir in the program titled 'İçel Agenda' was also discussed. The broadcasting organization was fined at the upper limit.

WHAT HAPPENED?

In the program titled 'Turkey's Direction' aired on TELE1, regarding the caption that read 'What is the difference between RTE and Netanyahu', an investigation was initiated ex officio against the General Director of the Television Merdan Yanardağ, Responsible Manager İhsan Demir, and Program Moderator Musa Özuğurlu for the crime of 'openly insulting the President', and a detention order was issued against them.

After their statements to the prosecutor's office, a judicial control decision was made for the 3 suspects, with a travel ban abroad.
