Kasım Gülpınar, who was elected as the Mayor of Şanlıurfa from the Rebirth Party in the local elections on March 31, has resigned from his party. In a video message he released, Gülpınar responded to the allegations that he would join the AK Party, stating that he will continue his duty independently.
The Mayor of Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, Mehmet Kasım Gülpınar, announced that he will continue to serve as the Mayor independently after resigning from the Welfare Party.

In his statement, Mayor Gülpınar recalled that they crowned the candidacy process, which they started as a result of the demands of the people of Şanlıurfa, with victory on the night of March 31, and stated that they acted with a common understanding on this path they took with their fellow citizens.
Emphasizing that he always prioritizes the demands and calls from the people, Mayor Gülpınar stated in his statement; "During this period, I have always been transparent and shared the developing situations with you, my dear fellow citizens. I have remained loyal and will remain loyal to our heartfelt agreement with you. In addition, it has become necessary to carry out our services and works in the most appropriate environment for our people who have always embraced us and never withheld their love."

With these facts, in order to put an end to the issues that occupy our agenda and to focus on better services for Şanlıurfa; we have decided to continue our duty as the Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality 'Independently' from any political party, in accordance with the common opinion of our people. I believe that an independent and unifying political style will be beneficial in ending the political conflicts that have occupied the agenda of Şanlıurfa for a long time and enabling the discussion of services, investments, and the future of Şanlıurfa instead of political divisions and polarization.
