The rapid spread of the HMPV virus in Wuhan, China has led to the closure of schools. In the past week, the extreme congestion in hospitals has resembled the early days of Covid-19. Initially described as "mysterious," the HMPV virus, confirmed to have been discovered in 2001, is particularly affecting Wuhan. After 30 children fell ill, authorities decided to close schools to prevent the spread of the virus. In India's Karnataka state, measures have been increased following the detection of three cases. Authorities have advised individuals showing symptoms of the virus to avoid crowded areas and wear masks. Health Minister JP Nadda stated, "HMPV is transmitted through respiratory means and can affect all age groups. The virus spreads more rapidly, especially during the winter months and the beginning of spring." The virus, which affects children more across China, shows symptoms similar to Covid-19, such as fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, and dizziness. Children's hospitals are struggling due to the high number of patients. First identified in 2001 and belonging to the same virus family as measles and mumps, HMPV is believed to have existed since at least the 1950s, according to the CDC. Authorities are closely monitoring the spread of the virus.
