The beach has been closed for 24 hours, and "smart" capture nets designed to mark and release sharks have begun to be installed. The shoreline was scanned with drones.

WITNESSES INTERVENED

Health teams praised the intervention of witnesses who helped the injured man, stating, "This intervention likely saved his life." NSW Ambulance Unit Director Josh Smyth said, "The bravery shown by some witnesses in this situation is incredible. Putting yourself in such a situation is truly heroic, and it bought us time to reach the male patient." A statement from the Department of Primary Industries indicated that the shark involved in the attack was likely a "large bull shark."
