The incident took place on January 23rd last year in Akkışla district. Sonay Aslaner shot Mehmet Can with a gun during an argument, claiming that he constantly bothered her. Mehmet Can lost his life, and Sonay Aslaner was arrested and sent to prison. The investigation against Soner Arslaner was completed, and an indictment was prepared. A lawsuit was filed against the defendant Aslaner for the crime of 'intentional homicide'. At the trial hearing held at the 3rd Heavy Penal Court of Kayseri, the defendant Sonay Aslaner, the complainant's family of Mehmet Can, and their lawyers were present. The complainant's family of Mehmet Can demanded the defendant to be punished severely. "THE GUN SUDDENLY WENT OFF"In the first trial, Sonay Aslaner defended herself by saying, "While I was taking care of the animals, the door of the barn opened, Mehmet entered, he took a stick in his hand, I was going to call my husband with my phone. He hit my hand with the stick, and the phone broke. Then he started hitting my arm and leg with the stick. He said, 'Why did you tell?' I shouted, but I couldn't make myself heard. He threatened to kill me and my children. We encountered each other another day. He said, 'My dear, you cannot convince anyone of what I did to you, I will do the same to your daughter.' I got scared and took out the gun. After I took out the gun, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law got scared and ran away. The gun suddenly went off, and Mehmet fell to the ground. I don't remember what happened afterwards. I really don't remember. I went to the police station and said to the police officer, 'Brother, save me.' After the end of my statement, I learned that I shot him. And then he died. I wasn't that kind of person, I was scared, I have 4 children. I didn't want it to be like this," said Sonay Aslaner, defending herself. She repeated her previous statements and requested acquittal. 1 YEAR AND 15 DAYS IMPRISONMENT FOR CARRYING AN UNLICENSED WEAPONThe court sentenced the defendant Sonay Aslaner to life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional homicide'. The court then reduced the sentence to 15 years with the reduction of 'unjust provocation' and to 12 years and 6 months with the reduction of 'good conduct', and decided to continue her detention. The court also ruled that Aslaner should be punished with 1 year and 15 days in prison for the crime of 'carrying an unlicensed weapon'.
