Former İYİ Party Chair Meral Akşener filed a criminal complaint against her brother-in-law, Hasan Basri Akşener, who is also a member of the Founding Board and Central Disciplinary Board of the Victory Party, through her lawyer. INSULTS AGAINST MERAL AKŞENERThe lawsuit submitted to the Ankara Duty Civil Court included posts made by Hasan Basri Akşener on social media about Meral Akşener and messages exchanged between him and Selcen Kahramanoğlu. It was stated that Selcen Kahramanoğlu forwarded these conversations, which were alleged to contain threats and insults, to Meral Akşener's lawyer, citing that they could pose a danger. According to Oda TV's report, it was revealed that the messages contained severe insults and threats directed at Meral Akşener. The petition stated that there was no legal relationship or communication between Meral Akşener and Hasan Basri Akşener, and it also included screenshots of the relevant messages. In the conversation screenshots provided in the file, it was seen that Hasan Basri Akşener used expressions such as "...this is not a family issue. Because he is a son of a b****... If I see him, I will hit him like that..." directed at Meral Akşener. SOCIAL MEDIA MESSAGES ALSO SUBJECT TO COMPLAINTIn the petition, Hasan Basri Akşener's message dated July 4, sent from his personal X account, stating "I have cut ties with Mrs. Meral Akşener due to financial matters; if I see such a financial matter in the Victory Party, I wouldn't stay for a minute," was defined as an attack on personal rights. HASAN BASRI AKŞENER'S STATEMENTHasan Basri Akşener gave a statement at the police yesterday. He stated that he criticized the management style and policies of the İYİ Party, and for this reason, their relationship deteriorated during Meral Akşener's term as chair. He said, "Akşener called me several times and said rude things, telling me not to write articles or make comments against her. I expressed that I would write what I believe to be true and continue to criticize her. After this and similar incidents, we did not meet face to face." Hasan Basri Akşener continued his statement as follows: On July 3, 2024, when I asked questions about Meral Akşener on Facebook, I also responded. However, I did not think that Selcen Kahramanoğlu would forward these conversations. I had no instruction or statement regarding the forwarding of the messages. In fact, while Selcen Kahramanoğlu was writing to me, she expressed that she trusted my sincerity, that the issues between Akşener and me were private family matters, and that she would consider it as if she had not heard or read these conversations. However, later, these conversations I had with Selcen Kahramanoğlu were also leaked to local media, resulting in negative news about me. For all these reasons, I filed a criminal complaint due to Selcen Kahramanoğlu sharing these private conversations with third parties. I had sent these writings to a person named Selcen Kahramanoğlu, not to Mrs. Meral. It is not possible for the crimes of insult and threat to occur due to the expressions I used. Since these writings are conversations between Selcen Kahramanoğlu and me, it is also not possible for the crime of insult in absentia to occur. I intended to express the phrase 'If I see him, I will hit him' as 'If I see him, I will hit him in the face.' The expression of hitting in the face here does not mean to show physical violence, but rather is an idiom meaning to confront someone with their mistakes and faults. I do not approve of Akşener's policies, what she has done, or her political stance, but I find it extremely absurd to claim that I would apply physical violence against her due to what she has or has not done. It is not possible for me to commit violence against not only my brother's wife but any woman. I reject the accusations against me.
