The snowfall that Istanbul residents have been eagerly waiting for has begun in the Marmara Region. In the higher elevations of Edirne, where the meteorology department issued a yellow code warning, snowfall has been significant. In the city, which is now covered in a white blanket, intermittent snowfall is expected to continue tomorrow as well.
The General Directorate of Meteorology issued critical warnings regarding the rainy weather that will affect the entire country. According to the latest forecasts, especially in the Marmara and Aegean Regions, heavy rainfall, mixed rain and snow, and snowfall in higher elevations are expected.
METEOROLOGY ISSUES YELLOW CODE WARNING FOR 13 PROVINCES
Meteorology reported that heavy rain and showers are expected in Thrace (Edirne, Kırklareli, Tekirdağ) and that mixed rain and snow will be effective in the higher elevations of the region. It was stated that locally heavy showers (21-50 kg/m²) are expected in Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Yalova. The Meteorology urged citizens to be cautious as the rains could bring risks such as floods, water inundation, lightning, strong winds, disruptions in transportation, and blizzards, issuing a "yellow code" warning for 13 provinces.

SNOWFALL HAS STARTED IN EDİRNE
Following the yellow code warning from Meteorology, cold and rainy weather coming from the Balkans has led to snowfall in the higher elevations of Edirne. Mixed rain was effective in the city center. The higher elevations of the Lalapaşa district and some villages, as well as the road to the Hamzabeyli border gate connecting to Bulgaria, were covered in white. According to information from meteorology officials, snowfall is expected to continue intermittently tomorrow in the region where the air temperature was measured at 2 degrees.
