Heavy snowfall in the highlands of Rize has caused significant damage to tea agriculture. Producers are concerned that the effects of the frost on the tea gardens may lead to a decrease in yield and are calling for support.
The cold and snowfall affecting the country have caused damage to many agricultural products, while the snowfall in the highlands of Rize has also harmed tea cultivation.
Due to the snowfall and agricultural frost affecting Rize, burning occurred at the peak points of the tea fields. As spring arrives and the tea plant begins to sprout, the snowfall in April caused frost damage to the tea gardens. The sudden drop in temperatures led to burns in the tea plants. Tea producers, who stated that the tea gardens in Rize's Çamlıhemşin district were largely damaged due to the snowfall, expressed that the yield in the new season might be low.
Çamlıhemşin Agricultural Chamber President Kemal Kestioğlu, who argued that producers should be supported to avoid suffering, said, "The agricultural frost disaster affecting many parts of our country has also impacted tea cultivation in the Çamlıhemşin region. It is more important than ever to stand by the producers during this challenging process. Our farmers need more support for the continuity of production."
