In an incident that shook Portugal, a group of social media influencers was revealed to have raped a 16-year-old girl and shared the footage online. The event, which took place in February in the city of Loures near Lisbon, sparked a massive outcry across the country.
According to information related to the incident, the young girl arranged to meet a boy who was allegedly her boyfriend. However, the boy brought two friends with him to the meeting. The three young men took the girl to a storage room, sexually assaulted her, and recorded the moments on camera.
The assailants later shared this footage on social media. Despite the video being viewed by more than 32,000 people, no one reported the situation to the authorities. The incident only came to light after the victim sought medical attention.
Three suspects aged between 17 and 19 were detained on charges of kidnapping, aggravated rape, and child pornography. However, the court released them on the condition that they report to the police weekly and do not contact the victim.
It is reported that one of the suspects has 250,000 followers on TikTok and 65,000 on Instagram. Lisbon police chief João Oliveira stated, "The influence of the suspects over young audiences played a role in the occurrence of this incident."
The court's decision to release the suspects led to protests in many cities across Portugal. Hundreds of people took to the streets in Lisbon and Funchal, chanting slogans like "No means no." Protesters carried banners that read "Rape is not filmed, it is condemned" and "Don't share, report!"
The incident has strengthened calls for stricter measures to combat violence against women and digital abuse in Portugal.
