NORTH KOREANS MISSED THE TARGETWhile the repercussions of North Korea sending soldiers to Russia to fight against Ukraine continue, a shocking claim has come from the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (DIU). In a statement from the DIU, it was reported that 8 Chechen soldiers were killed as a result of North Korean soldiers sent to the Kursk region opening "friendly fire" on Chechen Akhmat units fighting on behalf of Russia. The statement noted that the incident was a result of the language barrier between Russian and North Korean forces, emphasizing that this barrier continues to cause difficulties on the front. CHECHEN AND NORTH KOREAN FORCES FIGHTING ALONGSIDE RUSSIAIt is known that units loyal to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who has gained prominence for his support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, are fighting alongside the Russian army against Ukraine. It is also reported that North Korea has sent approximately 12,000 soldiers to the front to support Russia. NORTH KOREA'S INVOLVEMENTRussian President Vladimir Putin made an official visit to North Korea in June, during which a "comprehensive strategic partnership agreement" was signed between the parties. In a statement on October 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that they had learned that Russia would deploy North Korean soldiers to the first combat zones on October 27-28. On the same day, the White House also announced that more than 3,000 soldiers had been brought to Russia to fight against Ukraine, and that some of these soldiers were likely stationed in the Kursk region.
