The Ministry of Trade has launched a comprehensive inspection across the country following claims that numerous products in chain supermarkets have been simultaneously and unjustifiably increased in price after the minimum wage was raised to 28,000 TL. During the inspections, a sudden price increase was detected in 42 products at the branches of a major chain supermarket in Istanbul alone.

Immediately after the minimum wage was raised to 28 thousand TL, claims that many products in chain supermarkets had their labels changed and sudden price increases occurred prompted the Ministry of Trade to take action. In inspections initiated across Turkey, unjustified price increases were detected in 42 products only in Istanbul.

"WE ARE ON THE GROUND, WE STAND BY OUR WORD"

Bekir Kaplan, Press Advisor to the Ministry of Trade, stated in his post on platform X that teams affiliated with provincial directorates are continuing their inspections "inch by inch, label by label" throughout Turkey. Kaplan emphasized that they will not turn a blind eye to those trying to take advantage of the minimum wage increase.

SUDDEN PRICE INCREASE DETECTED IN 42 PRODUCTS

Kaplan announced that in the inspections conducted only in Istanbul, unjustified price increases were identified in 42 products at a major chain supermarket, and the administrative process against the company in question was immediately initiated.

"NO TOLERANCE FOR EXPLOITATION"

Kaplan expressed their determination against practices that exploit the labor and sweat of citizens, stating that tradespeople who engage in fair and honest trade are being meticulously protected.

WARNING AGAINST CREATING PERCEPTION WITH OLD LABELS

Kaplan also emphasized that misleading shares based on old labels will not be allowed, noting that the Ministry of Trade is on the ground against both exploitation and disinformation.
