Sudan Says Will Not Tolerate Killings Amid Tension With Ethiopia

Sudan says Ethiopia abducted, killed 7 soldiers, civilian.

Sudan's army chief, Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, said Monday the military will not tolerate the killing of its soldiers by Ethiopian forces.
Addressing his forces in the disputed al-Fashaga border area, Al-Burhan said the Sudanese army will fully protect the Sudanese territories and people.
"We don't have a lot to say. We will practically show them our strength and strong response. We can also die until we bring the rights of our soldiers from the enemy," he added.
The Sudanese army said seven soldiers and a civilian had been seized on Sudanese territory last week and taken to Ethiopia where they were killed.
On Monday, Sudan summoned the Ethiopian ambassador to protest the killings and recalled its envoy from Addis Ababa for consultations.
The Foreign Ministry said it will submit a complaint to the UN Security Council over the Ethiopian attack on the Sudanese territories.
"Sudan reserves the right to protect its people and territories against these Ethiopian aggressions," the ministry said.
Tension escalated between Sudan and Ethiopia in recent months over the al-Fashaqa Triangle, a decades-long disputed border area lacking definite demarcation.
While Khartoum said on Dec. 31, 2020, that it imposed its control over the Sudanese territory where Ethiopian militias were present, Addis Ababa accuses Sudan's military of occupying Ethiopian territory, as well, a claim its northern neighbor denies. -
