Former YouTube CEO and one of Google's first employees, Susan Wojcicki, passed away at the age of 56. According to her husband Dennis Troper's statement, Wojcicki had been battling lung cancer for two years. In a Facebook post, Troper said, "My wife of 26 years and mother of our five children passed away today." He described Wojcicki as "a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a valuable friend." Wojcicki, one of the leading women in Silicon Valley, had opened her garage to the founders of Google during the company's early days. She later became Google's 16th employee and worked at the company for 25 years. Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that Wojcicki had a significant place in Google's history and said, "She was an incredible person, leader, and friend. We will miss her dearly." Wojcicki served as the CEO of YouTube for nine years. This period coincided with the transition of the internet to social media and increased criticism of online platforms for spreading misinformation and harmful content. When she stepped down in 2023, she said, "I am proud of everything we have accomplished. It has been an exciting, meaningful experience that has encompassed my whole being."
