Forty-seven suspects, who are alleged to have collaborated with individuals working at the 112 Emergency Call Center in Istanbul to transfer emergency infant patients to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon, resulting in deaths and unjust profits, are appearing before a judge today. Tensions arose in the courthouse corridors ahead of the five-day trial.

Members of the gang accused of causing the deaths of babies in intensive care for the sake of money will appear before a judge for the first time. There are 47 defendants in the case, 22 of whom are in custody. The defendants are facing a request for a total of 17,000 years in prison. In addition to the gang members, 19 private hospitals are also held responsible in the case. Before the trial, which has locked Turkey's attention, a crowd gathered in front of the courtroom chanting slogans like "Don't be silent, it will be your turn next."
