Tension between CHP's Ağbaba and AK Party's Gökçek over 'Rome trip': There's a troll child in front of me

22.05.2024 10:55

A debate over Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's trip to Rome took place between CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba and AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek. Tension escalated in the Turkish Grand National Assembly during that time.

A debate over Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's trip to Rome took place between CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba and AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek. Ağbaba stated that AK Party members travel by plane under the guise of austerity. Gökçek, on the other hand, said, 'İmamoğlu went to Rome by plane.' In response, Ağbaba said, 'Look, there's a troll child in front of me, I don't engage with a troll child.'

ECONOMY DISCUSSION IN THE PARLIAMENT

CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba criticized the government regarding the penalties included in the law proposal on exorbitant prices and hoarding. Ağbaba said, 'What is the reason for price increases? If you ask anyone, they will say inflation... The reason for inflation is the one-man rule. The government that governs the country, don't go far. The theory was that interest is the cause and inflation is the result. If you are going to punish someone, if you are going to close someone down, close down the palace. Silence that great economist and everything will change.'

'THE MINISTER WENT TO MALATYA BY PRIVATE PLANE'

Ağbaba said, 'Remember the 2018 election campaign, vegetable prices increased, who was to blame? That cucumber, yes, he was to blame. There was another enemy, who threatened the country's survival, the dry onion. What did you do? You raided the onion depots. Enough is enough, stop the extravagance and waste, don't make fun of the intelligence of this nation. Now, ministers are going around in minibuses in the provinces. One of the ministers went to Malatya, how did he go? By private plane, by private plane,' which led to tension between AK Party Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek and Ağbaba.

Dialogue between Ağbaba and Gökçek:

Osman Gökçek: İmamoğlu also went by plane.

Veli Ağbaba: You be quiet. Look, there's a troll's son in front of me.

Osman Gökçek: İmamoğlu went to Rome.

Veli Ağbaba: Look, there's a troll child in front of me, I don't engage with a troll child.

Osman Gökçek: Explain how you paid for the wine you drank to Istanbul.

Veli Ağbaba: Adolescent troll, stop trolling.

Veli Ağbaba: Waste has become your morality. The solution is to help the poor... Stop corruption, stop theft, stop extravagance, and this country will be fixed in a day.

Osman Gökçek: You paid for the plane with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's money.

Osman Gökçek said, 'Of course, there was a trip to Rome. Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu took the journalists with him; you paid for the plane he took with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's money. Then you said, 'We provided meals for the journalists there,' you opened wine, and you made Istanbul residents pay for the wine; now, you come and talk to us about austerity.'

'THERE WAS NO PRIVATE PLANE, TICKETS WERE ECONOMY CLASS'

CHP Deputy Group Chairman Murat Emir, commenting on Gökçek's words, stated that they went on a charter flight by Turkish Airlines and said, 'When you come and attack here and there as if you are going to respond, you cannot be right. We can explain until morning, we have no problem. Look, Ekrem İmamoğlu went to Rome. When he went to Rome, he didn't select individual pro-government journalists like you did. He selected 37 journalists. None of them have any pro-government affiliation, and most importantly, there was no private plane, they went on a charter flight by Turkish Airlines, and all tickets were economy class.'

'THEY ATE THE MEAL GIVEN BY THE COMMITTEE, NO EXPENSES'

So, why did they go there? Look, the agreement between the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the European Games was signed there. Be proud of these, be happy. This was a move to host the Olympic Games in Istanbul in 2036, this is very valuable. They are trying to make Istanbul a world capital, they are trying to make Istanbul the capital of culture and sports. You are afraid of me, aren't you? Because your injustice will be revealed. They stayed for one night, had dinner in the evening. Do you know where they had dinner? The Olympic Committee hosted the dinner, they ate that, do you know? There was no expense there, there is a very important historical service there; for everyone to hear, for the whole world to see, for the European Games to be played in Istanbul in front of the whole world. This is a success, be proud of it if you can.'

'I BROUGHT BEYAZ TV TO THIS STATE WITH THE LEAST ADVERTISING FROM THE PUBLIC'

Ağbaba asked former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek how he bought Beyaz TV. Osman Gökçek replied, 'You can check all the commercial registry newspapers, Beyaz TV is not mine, you have difficulty understanding this. I brought Beyaz TV to this state with the least advertising from the public. Once, because of this, I achieved success in my professional life.'
