A woman sunbathing on the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, was trapped under a police car in a horrific accident before the Labor Day holiday. The incident occurred on Wednesday. Witness Simone Rose said she heard the screams of horrified people trying to warn the officer driving the Ford F-150 police vehicle. Rose told NJ.com, "They were the ones taking action. Everyone was shouting, 'You hit someone! There's someone under your truck! Stop!'" Rose noted that when people gathered around the vehicle, the officer involved in the incident jumped out. The witness remembered that the people around worked together to lift the front of the truck and rescue the woman. It was reported that the woman suffered broken ribs and vertebrae in the accident, as well as lung problems. However, it was announced that she was not in critical condition and her recovery was expected. According to the information obtained, the woman was sunbathing on a towel in dark-colored clothes during the accident. Her male companion was swimming in the sea at that time. The woman's identity has not been disclosed to the public. Wildwood Police Chief Joseph Murphy stated in a statement on Friday that the officer involved in the incident, whose name was not disclosed, was normally on beach duty. A spokesperson, who stated that an internal investigation has been initiated regarding the incident and no further comments will be made to the public during the investigation, did not make any further comments on the matter. This tragic incident once again brought up the need to review safety measures and vehicle use on beaches.
