Famous social media influencers Fırat Sobutay, Bilal Hancı, Gökhan Öner, and Ataberk Doğan, who visited the popular street boyoz vendor in İzmir recently, were shocked by the bill they received after eating boyoz.
70 THOUSAND LIRA BILL The moments when the four influencers paid a bill of 7,000 lira caused a huge stir on social media. Sharing the video they shot at the boyoz vendor with their followers, the influencers couldn't hide their astonishment when they saw the receipt after eating various boyoz. Ataberk Doğan reacted to the situation with the words, "Did the bill seem expensive to me?" and those moments quickly became a hot topic.
MINISTRY OF TRADE INTERVENED: SHOCKING PENALTY Following the reactions, the Ministry of Trade intervened. Inspection teams conducted an examination at the boyoz vendor visited by the influencers. During the inspections, it was determined that there was no price list in the establishment. Therefore, an administrative fine of 47,490 lira was imposed on the business.
In a statement made through the official social media account of the Ministry of Trade regarding the issue, it was stated: "Following the shares in some press and social media platforms claiming that 'a street boyoz vendor in İzmir charged a citizen 7,000 TL,' our Ministry's teams immediately initiated an investigation. The investigations revealed that the sale in question took place at a business belonging to an individual operating with a street simit cart in the Konak district. It was determined that the individual sold pastries such as gevrek, boyoz, poğaça, and börek, as well as beverages, after 8:00 PM."
During the inspection conducted on the night of November 5, 2025; based on the findings regarding the pricing of the products, a Unfair Price Detection Report was prepared for the business, and sales invoices were requested for defense. Additionally, a notification was made to the İzmir Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen regarding the compliance of the prices with the maximum tariff prices of the relevant tradesmen's association.
On November 6, 2025, Baran Akçakale, the owner of the business, stated that a large group of more than 50 people, whom he identified as social media influencers, arrived at the establishment around 2:30 AM, purchased products while live streaming, and requested at least two pieces each of cheese, egg, and Nutella boyoz.
The business owner explained that these individuals used expressions like "write the bill high, make sure it's not short, we will take everything from you," and despite his desire to calculate the bill, a rough total was insisted upon, resulting in a bill of 7,600 TL for approximately 100 boyoz and beverages, and due to the limit of the POS device, a receipt of 6,900 TL was issued, and the payment was made based on this amount.
According to the business owner's statement, after making the payment, the individuals left satisfied, but later made posts on social media containing allegations of "exorbitant prices."
On the other hand, during the inspection, it was also determined by our inspection teams that there were no price lists and labels for the gevrek, boyoz, poğaça, börek, and beverages sold in the establishment. Therefore, an administrative fine of 47,490 TL was imposed on the relevant business in accordance with Article 54 of the Law No. 6502 on the Protection of Consumers.
Our Ministry of Trade will continue to carry out strict inspection activities meticulously to ensure that both our consumers and honest traders do not suffer in the market and to prevent unfair pricing practices.
