A 90-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a coffee shop in Los Gatos, California, causing panic. The incident, which occurred on Thanksgiving night, was captured by security cameras, and police stated that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. The business sustained significant damage, and the elderly driver was taken to the hospital.
CRASHED INTO THE COFFEE SHOP LIKE IT WAS OK
Footage reported by local WABC-TV News shows the vehicle speeding down University Avenue in Los Gatos, a suburb of San Jose, before crashing at full speed into the establishment known as Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company. The impact of the crash nearly demolished the popular shop, and the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken to the hospital.
The owner of the coffee shop, Teri Hope, expressed great sadness over the destruction, emphasizing that it was a huge stroke of luck that no one was inside at the time, stating, "I’m devastated by the destruction, but it’s incredible luck that no one inside was injured except for the driver."
Photos taken after the accident show the dark-colored sedan having shattered the front window and entered the shop, remaining on top of the debris.
SUSPICION OF ALCOHOL IN DRIVER
A statement from the Los Gatos Police Department indicated that alcohol may have played a role in the accident, but the investigation is ongoing and multifaceted. It was noted that the business was closed and empty at the time of the incident, and the driver was alone in the vehicle.
Local residents pointed out that a tragedy could have occurred if the incident had happened during a busier time.
