In Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, 7-year-old disabled Bahar B. was subjected to violence, with her mouth covered and her hands and feet tied to the bed. Following the rapid spread of the chilling images on social media, the Ministry of Family and Social Services initiated an investigation. Two suspects detained by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were released under judicial control. It was previously claimed that another child had died of starvation at the same care center. PLACED IN A CARE CENTER BECAUSE SHE COULDN'T TAKE CARE OF HER DAUGHTERAccording to the information obtained, the incident occurred in Büyükçekmece on September 15. An investigation was launched regarding the images showing a disabled child tied to a bed and two staff members intervening with the child. It was learned that a woman named N.B., who is in the process of divorce from her husband, lives with her brother. The woman, who stated that she had no home or income, was found to have placed her daughter in the care center because she was causing harm to herself and the household items. FILED A COMPLAINT AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEOThe woman, who saw the video showing violence against her daughter, went to the police station on September 25 to file a complaint against the individuals. An operation was launched to capture the identified suspects. Investigations revealed that the footage was recorded by a care staff member named F.B., and the individuals in the footage were identified as care staff member B.Y. and health staff member G.B.T. Further investigations revealed that F.B. left her job due to a dispute with her colleagues, and on the date the video was shared, September 23, 2024, B.Y. and G.B.T. were dismissed by the institution's authorities. DETAINED AND RELEASEDTwo suspects were captured and detained. The suspects B.Y. and G.B.T. were released under judicial control by the judicial authorities to which they were referred for the crimes of "Abuse of Trust, Mistreatment, and Intentional Injury"; it was learned that proceedings were initiated against the institution's officials and other employees. CLAIM OF A DISABLED INDIVIDUAL DYING OF STARVATIONIn January of last year, it was claimed in some social media posts that 17-year-old H.T., who was receiving support at the same care center, died of starvation. The lawyer of the private care center, Beytullah Duymaz, made a statement regarding this issue, saying, "The disabled individual H.T. passed away 1 year and 9 months ago, on January 25, 2023. He stayed in our institution for a total of 25 days. During this period, the family was informed and he was repeatedly taken to the hospital for treatment. When the disabled individual arrived at the institution, it was noted that he had the specified wounds, which are documented in the acceptance form signed by the family. The forensic report regarding the individual's death clearly states the cause of death, contrary to the allegations. There is no document or statement anywhere indicating that he died of starvation, contrary to the misleading statements of the opposing party's lawyer."
