In the incident that occurred last Friday, Belyatskaya unexpectedly became a victim of the wave while meditating at the island's popular viewpoint, Lad Ko. The moment of the incident was captured on camera, showing the young woman being swept into the sea by a giant wave while sitting on her pink yoga mat.
One of the eyewitnesses attempted a rescue, but was unsuccessful due to the strong current. Rescue teams arrived at the scene 15 minutes after the incident, but the waves reaching up to 3 meters made their efforts difficult.
Chaiyaporn Subprasert, the director of the Samui Rescue Center, stated, "We have warning systems across the island during the monsoon season, and red flags are placed in risky areas. However, the main purpose of the location is not swimming, but enjoying the view. The victim was caught off guard by the sudden wave rise."
Belyatskaya's body was found about a kilometer away from the scene. It was revealed that the young woman had previously described the location on her social media accounts as "the best place in the world."
Local authorities have banned access to the rocky area below the viewpoint to prevent similar accidents after the incident.
