Yesterday, armed groups opposing the Assad regime entered the city center of Aleppo in Syria, gaining control over many neighborhoods and seizing a large part of the city. In Idlib, advancing opposition forces also took control of another district.

AMMUNITION AND MILITARY VEHICLES SEIZED

Groups that reached Sadallah El-Jabiri Square, located in the center of Aleppo, advanced and seized a large part of the city. The regime-opposing groups quickly took over the governorate and police headquarters buildings, as well as the iconic Aleppo Citadel. Armed groups that captured Abu Zuhur Military Airport seized ammunition and military vehicles left behind by regime soldiers.

CURFEW IMPOSED

Armed groups that imposed a curfew in the city are conducting inspections in the neighborhoods they control and taking security measures. In the evening hours, the groups also entered buildings used by the regime as detention centers, releasing dozens of people, including political prisoners.

THEY ARE ALSO ADVANCING RAPIDLY IN IDLIB

Similar to Aleppo province, armed groups advancing rapidly in the rural areas of Idlib have captured more than 50 villages under the control of the Assad regime in the east and southeast of Idlib. Most recently, control of the strategically important Serakib district of the city has also been seized.
