The father, wearing a black tank top and light-colored shorts, approached the referee leaving the field and asked, "Do you know what football means?" He then threw a savage hook at the referee.
Video footage shows that the referee managed to stay on his feet while the attacker was removed by those around him.
The FC Villmergen coach described the father's behavior as unacceptable. He stated that the attack might have occurred because the father thought his son had been fouled.
The club management is evaluating what kind of measures to take against this person, including a ban on watching his son's matches.
The club's statement included the following: "FC Villmergen condemns all forms of violence both on and off the field. The incident that occurred after the match on May 31, 2025, is completely contrary to our core values. We are working closely with the relevant authorities to fully clarify the situation."
Video footage has been sent to the Aargau Football Federation (AFV). AFV President Luigi Ponte reacted to the incident, saying: "I was truly shocked to see someone go crazy like this during a match. We will have to refer the case to Bern."
Ponte indicated that the incident would be handled by higher authorities, referring to Bern, the headquarters of the Swiss Football Federation.
According to Swiss statistics, referees are subjected to insults, threats, or physical attacks in one out of every 100 football matches in the country. This figure shows how widespread violence against referees is.
Ponte had stated last month that he was against referees using body cameras. However, due to the increase in such incidents, this decision may need to be reconsidered.
