The former Syrian diplomat Nureddin Ibrahim al-Lebad was killed in an armed attack carried out by unidentified individuals in the Sanamayn district of Daraa province in the south of the country. Lebad, who joined the ranks of the opposition after breaking away from the ousted Baath regime in 2013, had served in various consulates.

HE WAS KNOWN AS THE "NEGOTIATOR MINISTER"
He was born in Sanamayn in 1962. He completed his doctorate in French literature at Damascus University. He obtained a master's degree in International Relations from Paris Sorbonne University. During the Baath regime, Lebad served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was known as the "Negotiator Minister."

Lebad served in the Syrian embassies in Sana, Baghdad, Ankara, Paris, and Tripoli, as well as in the Benghazi Consulate. On April 16, 2013, he became one of the first Syrian diplomats to flee the regime and settled in France. It was learned that Lebad returned to his hometown two weeks ago.
