A 16-year-old youth in Izmir was reportedly stabbed and seriously injured by a 14-year-old boy he had an argument with over not giving him a cigarette. The young man, who underwent surgery, survived the life-threatening situation, while the detained suspect was released.

ARGUMENT OVER CIGARETTE ERUPTED
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in the Dereköy neighborhood of Menderes district. According to the information obtained, A.A.U. (16), who resides in Torbalı district, encountered C.U. (14) as he was leaving the mosque in the neighborhood he visited for a family visit. It is claimed that an argument broke out between the two after C.U. asked for a cigarette and A.A.U. refused this request.
HE HELD ONTO LIFE AFTER HOURS OF SURGERY
As the argument escalated into a fight, C.U. injured A.A.U. with a knife he had with him. After the initial intervention at the scene, A.A.U. was transferred to a children's hospital in Izmir, where he underwent emergency surgery. It was learned that the young man survived the life-threatening situation after approximately 3.5 hours of operation and is continuing his treatment.
KNIFE-WIELDING ATTACKER RELEASED
After the incident, the 14-year-old suspect C.U. was detained by gendarmerie teams and was brought to court after his procedures. The attacker was released by the court he was brought before.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
