The bill, which includes regulations for increasing traffic fines, has been approved by the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. With the acceptance of the proposal, revoked driver's licenses will be returned after the full collection of the administrative fine. In traffic accidents resulting in death or injury, drivers who leave the scene without the permission of the authorities will face up to 3 years in prison.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey discussed the Draft Law on Amendments to the Highway Traffic Law, which includes regulations aimed at increasing traffic fines.
THE DRAFT PASSED FROM THE ASSEMBLY
The draft discussed in the General Assembly was accepted and became law. With the new law, many new regulations have been made regarding traffic fines.
Drivers who intentionally change their license plates in a way that causes them to be read differently or not at all will be fined 140,000 lira in administrative fines, and the vehicle will be banned from traffic for 30 days.
Motor vehicles used for freight transport with a maximum loaded weight of more than 3,500 kilograms and motor vehicles used for passenger transport with more than 17 seating places, including the driver, will be required to have a tachograph, and taxis will also be required to have a taximeter.
HEAVY PENALTIES FOR SPEED LIMIT VIOLATORS
Drivers who exceed the speed limit by 46-55 kilometers/hour within residential areas will have their driving licenses revoked for 30 days each time, those who exceed it by 56-65 kilometers/hour will have their licenses revoked for 60 days each time, and those who exceed it by more than 66 kilometers/hour will have their licenses revoked for 90 days each time.
Drivers who do not give way to vehicles with the right of way will be fined 15,000 lira in administrative fines.
Drivers who do not make way for ambulances, vehicles carrying injured or emergency patients, and vehicles fighting forest fires, and who do not stop if necessary, will be fined 46,000 lira in administrative fines, and their driving licenses will be revoked for 30 days.
PENALTIES FOR AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS
Drivers who persistently follow another vehicle with the intent to attack or who exit their vehicle for this purpose will be fined 180,000 lira in administrative fines, their driving licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and their vehicles may be banned from traffic for 30 days.
If the modifications made to vehicles cause noise that disturbs those around them, the driver will be fined 16,000 lira in administrative fines.
5,000 LIRA FINE FOR USING PHONES WHILE DRIVING
Drivers who cause traffic accidents by violating red lights will have their driving licenses revoked for 60 days. The revoked driving licenses will be returned at the end of the revocation period, provided that the driver is found to have no obstacles to obtaining a driving license after undergoing a psychotechnical evaluation.
Drivers using mobile phones and similar communication devices while driving will be fined 5,000 lira in administrative fines.
Drivers of motor vehicles participating in races will be fined 46,000 lira in administrative fines, and their driving licenses will be revoked for 2 years.
PRISON FOR THOSE WHO LEAVE THE SCENE
In traffic accidents resulting in death or injury, drivers who leave the scene without the permission of the authorities will face imprisonment of 1 to 3 years.
Bicyclists, electric scooter riders, motorized bicycle riders, and motorcyclists will be fined 5,000 lira in administrative fines if they ride on pedestrian paths.
In snowy and icy weather conditions, drivers of trucks, tractors, and buses will be required to have, use, and keep snow chains in usable condition.
