The mystery surrounding the plane crash in India, which claimed the lives of nearly 300 people, is being unraveled. Teams have reached one of the two black boxes found in the crashed aircraft. The other black box, located at the front, has not yet been found. Efforts are ongoing to examine the black box and locate the other one.
A passenger plane flying from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, India, to London Gatwick Airport crashed seconds after takeoff. The "Boeing 787-8" aircraft, which is 12 years old, took off from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM local time with 230 passengers and 12 crew members on board. In the tragedy, nearly 300 people lost their lives, including passengers on the plane and students and intern doctors in the medical college dormitory where the plane crashed.
A BLACK BOX HAS BEEN REACHED
According to reports from Hindustan Times, a few hours after the accident, one of the two black boxes was found, which will help determine the cause of the crash. Teams reached the black box located at the rear of the plane. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation began gathering equipment to analyze the records. The second black box located at the front of the plane has not yet been found. Teams are continuing their efforts to locate the other black box.
CASUALTIES BOTH ON THE PLANE AND ON THE GROUND
Authorities in Ahmedabad stated that the death toll from the accident has exceeded 290, with more than 50 people injured and receiving treatment in the hospital. Indian police official Vidhi Chaudhary stated in a press release, "Approximately 294 people lost their lives. This number includes students who were in the building where the plane crashed." Earlier in the day, Swapnil Bhalodia from the Indian Medical Association Medical Students Network stated that at least 3 students lost their lives in the accident and 30 students were injured.
ONE PERSON MIRACULOUSLY SURVIVED
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old passenger on the plane, miraculously survived the crash. Ramesh was seen walking to the ambulance after the accident. Speaking about the crash, Ramesh said, "I was scared. I got up and started running. There was debris everywhere." It was reported that Ramesh, who holds dual citizenship in the UK and India, was on the plane returning to the UK from a visit to India and was seated in seat 11A, located between the front and middle sections of the plane.
PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE TO THE FAMILIES OF THE DECEASED
Tata Group, which owns Air India, shared a post on X social media account containing statements from Air India Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran. The post expressed deep sorrow over the tragic event and conveyed messages of solidarity with families who lost their loved ones.
The post indicated that Tata Group would make payments of approximately $115,000 to the families of the deceased, and that medical expenses for the injured would also be covered. Additionally, it was noted that support would be provided for the reconstruction of BJ Medical College, which was damaged in the plane crash. Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the area where the accident occurred and met with the injured.
