After the detention of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer early yesterday morning and his subsequent arrest, as well as the appointment of a trustee in his place, CHP and the DEM Party are holding a public meeting at Esenyurt Republic Square.

From the CHP, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan, and Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal did not attend the public meeting.

Ekrem İmamoğlu was the first to address the crowd at the rally.

İMAMOĞLU: IT IS A SLANDER AGAINST OUR MAYOR AHMET ÖZER

Speaking to party members in the square, Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu said:

"I looked at the allegations regarding the supposed relationship with the terrorist organization that is being portrayed as if it exists with our mayor Ahmet Özer. I apologize to our legal experts, but the person who wrote that indictment needs to see a psychiatrist immediately. It is slander against our mayor Ahmet Özer. If someone thinks that our mayor Ahmet Özer can be considered a terrorist because they believe he can contribute to the 'peace process,' what will we do with the authorities and public officials who initiated that process at the time? The government has reversed the course of justice."
