The co-mayors of the Mediterranean Municipality in Mersin, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, along with four municipal council members, have been detained. The co-mayors, who are alleged to have their positions replaced by trustees, had previously made headlines when they were seen removing the door of their office upon taking office.

The co-mayors of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) in Mersin, Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and Nuriye Arslan, along with four municipal council members, were detained in an operation organized by teams.

WHY WERE THEY DETAINED?

It was announced that an investigation was launched by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the detained individuals for the crimes of 'making propaganda for a terrorist organization', 'being a member of an armed terrorist organization', 'violating the law on the prevention of financing of terrorism', and 'violating the law on meetings and demonstrations numbered 2911'.
