GAVE UP THE CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE 9 POINTS AHEAD
In a statement from the club, it was noted that "Farioli joined Ajax a year ago from OGC Nice and signed a contract until June 30, 2027. Along with Farioli, assistant coaches Daniele Cavalletto and Felipe Sanchez Mateos, as well as goalkeeper coach Jarkko Tuomisto, will also leave the technical staff."
STATEMENT FROM FARIOLI
The young coach also stated on the club's official website, "My journey at Ajax began almost a year ago at De Toekomst, with the aim of bringing Ajax back to where it belongs. And at Johan Cruijff ArenA, it ended by finally bringing Ajax back to the Champions League, the biggest stage in European football. We wanted to bring new energy to the entire Ajax community and share a positive working and thinking style with the club at every level.
Being the first non-Dutch head coach since 1998 and the club's first Italian head coach was an absolute privilege: together with my team, we embraced this great challenge with respect, responsibility, passion, and determination to succeed. Gaining the respect and support we received from Ajax fans throughout the season meant a lot to me and my team. We experienced incredible and unforgettable moments together: a unique, intense, and emotional season where we shared our belief, fighting spirit, and pride, ultimately reaching our goal and completing our mission.
The management and I share the same goals for Ajax's future, but we have different visions and timelines regarding how we need to work and operate to achieve these goals. Given these differences in the principles and foundations of the project, I feel deep in my heart that this is the right time to part ways," he said in a statement.
ENTERED THE FINAL WEEKS AHEAD
Previously managing Fatih Karagümrük and Alanyaspor, Farioli had reached an agreement with Ajax at the beginning of the season after working with the French team Nice. Ajax, which entered the last 5 weeks of the Eredivisie 9 points ahead of PSV, lost the championship to its rival due to points dropped in four consecutive matches.
