"TRIPLE EPIDEMIC" EFFECT

Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Şevket Özkaya stated that there has been a significant increase in respiratory infections across the country in recent weeks, indicating that the simultaneous presence of influenza (flu), Covid-19, and RSV viruses has created a "triple epidemic" effect in society, warning citizens to be cautious.

"STARTING WITH FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS, UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THREE DIFFERENT VIRUSES"

Prof. Dr. Özkaya drew attention to the recent weather conditions, saying, "Due to a mix of autumn and summer climate, sudden temperature changes are experienced throughout the day. We are experiencing all four seasons in one day. This situation weakens the immune system, and disease patterns starting with flu-like symptoms are prolonged under the influence of three different viruses," he said.

"THE FRANKENSTEIN VARIANT HAS BEEN SEEN IN TURKEY"

Prof. Dr. Özkaya stated that the new type of Covid-19, referred to as the "Frankenstein variant," has also been seen in Turkey, saying, "There is no critical or life-threatening situation among our current patients. However, we know that this variant is highly contagious and has spread rapidly in Europe and Asia," he said.

"BE AWARE OF PNEUMONIA RISK"

Dr. Özkaya emphasized that flu and Covid-19 carry the risk of turning into pneumonia, stating, "In many of our patients after flu or Covid, the disease descends into the lungs and presents itself as pneumonia. We are also observing an increase in the number of patients being hospitalized," he said.

"AN EPIDEMIC THAT IS TRANSMISSIBLE BUT DOES NOT DISRUPT DAILY LIFE"

Stating that the epidemic spreads insidiously without disrupting daily life, Özkaya said, "Although flu and Covid are not severe enough to put one in bed, they make it difficult to carry out our daily tasks. The virus continues to circulate in society without a complete state of illness or complete wellness. Cases that do not rest and do not apply isolation continue the chain of transmission," he expressed.

WARNING TO CITIZENS

Prof. Dr. Özkaya made the following recommendations to citizens: "We advise our citizens with the slightest flu-like symptoms to rest at home. Those experiencing prolonged cough and shortness of breath should definitely consult a doctor to get a lung X-ray and receive appropriate treatment."
