During the protests that began in the cities of Homs, Tartus, and Latakia following claims that a Alevi place of worship was destroyed by HTS militants, 14 police officers were killed. While security forces affiliated with HTS launched an operation in Tartus, the protests by minority groups and the rising tensions are escalating the situation in the region.
The HTS administration in Syria announced that it has launched an operation in the city following the death of 14 police officers in clashes in Tartus.
CLASHES WERE OBSERVED IN THE STREETS
According to a report published by the Syrian State Television SANA, security forces affiliated with HTS have begun search operations in the city against soldiers remaining from Bashar al-Assad's regime. Footage shared on social media showed HTS-affiliated forces clashing in the streets.
SCUFFLES OCCURRED DURING PROTESTS
Yesterday, minority groups in the cities of Homs, Tartus, and Latakia held protests over claims that a Shia place of worship had been destroyed by HTS militants. During these protests, scuffles occurred as HTS teams intervened with the minority groups.
A CURFEW WAS DECLARED
HTS denied the allegations after the protests and declared a curfew for one day. However, these statements did not convince the protesters.
Channels affiliated with HTS also claimed that Hezbollah agents of Lebanese origin incited the public to create instability in the country. However, there has been no statement from the HTS government regarding this matter.
