A suspect who killed his family while they were sleeping at home in Adana appeared before the judge. In his defense, Serdar Aydın stated that someone else had killed his family, saying, "Nine years ago, my leg was broken. At the hospital I went to, a listening device was implanted in my leg. After a while, I started hearing voices from this device in my ear saying, 'If you die, you will become a martyr.'"
The trial of the detained defendant who killed his sleeping mother, father, and grandmother with a gun in a house in the central Sarıçam district of Adana has begun. The hearing, held by the Adana 4th High Criminal Court, was attended by the detained defendant Serdar Aydın (27) and a lawyer from the Ministry of Family and Social Services.
DEFENSE CLAIMED SOMEONE ELSE KILLED HIS FAMILY
Aydın claimed in his defense that he did not commit the murders. Aydın, who alleged that he woke up to the sound of gunfire on the night of the incident, said, "When I heard the gunshots, I immediately tried to call emergency medical services and the police, but it was busy. I called again later. My gun was in the adjacent bedroom. When I realized that the person who committed the act had left, I went to the room where the victims were; they were lying on the floor. I did not kill my mother, father, and grandmother. My leg was broken 9 years ago. A listening device was placed in my leg at the hospital I went to. After a while, I started hearing voices from this device saying, 'If you die, you will become a martyr.'" The ministry's lawyer stated that they were complaining about the defendant.
DEFENDANT REFERRED TO FORENSIC MEDICINE
The public prosecutor, whose opinion was sought, requested that Aydın's current condition be maintained. The court panel decided to refer the defendant to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution's Specialization Board for evaluation regarding mental illness and criminal responsibility and decided to continue his detention, postponing the hearing.
