The statements made by the defendant, who killed an elderly man by beating him with an iron rod just four days after being released from prison in Gölcük district of Kocaeli, shocked the court. On June 27, 2023, in the Değirmendere neighborhood of Gölcük district in Kocaeli, T.Ç. (23), who had been released from prison 4 days before the incident, killed the vendor Şakir Kaya (65) by beating him with an iron rod at the entrance of the Tuesday market. T.Ç., who was caught by the police teams, was arrested by the court after the procedures completed at the police station.
PROSECUTOR REQUESTED LIFE IMPRISONMENT T.Ç., who was charged with "murder with monstrous feelings and torture," appeared before the Kocaeli 1st Heavy Criminal Court again. The detained defendant attended the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS), and the lawyers of both parties were present in the courtroom. A report from the Forensic Medicine Institution, stating that the defendant's mental health was intact, was read during the hearing.
The prosecutor, who presented the opinion on the merits, requested that the defendant be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "murder with monstrous feelings and torture."
