Former deputy and artist Sabahat Akkiraz, who stated that she was criticized by her fellow deputies for announcing the exemption from traffic fines and opposing it, said, "It doesn't matter if those who react are not the public."
If approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), the new application that will come into effect will exempt current deputies from traffic fines for two vehicles, while former deputies will be exempt for one vehicle. With this right granted to current deputies also covering former deputies, a total of 3,600 deputies will benefit from the exemption.
ANNOUNCED TO THE PUBLIC BY SABAHAT AKKIRAZ
One of the opponents of the highly criticized application was former CHP Deputy and artist Sabahat Akkiraz. In a post on her X account, Akkiraz announced this unjust application to the public, stating, "They called from the TBMM Deputy Services Presidency, saying that if I apply with a petition, one of my vehicles will be exempt from traffic fines! Why? Do I have the right not to comply with the rules? The rules are for everyone. Vehicles with priority are defined by law. Stop constantly seeking privileges for yourselves," she expressed.
DEPUTIES ARE REACTING
Akkiraz stated that she received backlash from deputies for announcing and opposing the application in a new statement on her social media account, saying, "A former deputy friend called me. They said there is a lot of backlash against you! It was because I announced the regulation that exempts deputies from traffic fines and opposed it! I said it doesn't matter as long as the ones reacting are not the public. It was wrong yesterday. It will be wrong tomorrow as well," she said.
