The Ministry of National Education canceled the diplomas of 403 students and the class promotion process of 398 students as a result of inspections conducted on private schools during the last academic year, which revealed that these students did not meet the enrollment requirements, were given false and fictitious grades, and did not attend school regularly.

The General Directorate of Private Education Institutions of the Ministry of National Education (MEB) conducted comprehensive inspections regarding the educational processes of students in private schools across Turkey for the 2023-2024 academic year. During the inspections, it was determined that some students in these schools did not attend school regularly, did not participate in exams, that the absence records of students who did not attend school were not processed by the administration, that false grade entries were made, that they did not meet the registration requirements for formal secondary education institutions, and that the equivalency documents presented during registration were not found in the Ministry's records.

403 STUDENTS' DIPLOMAS WERE REVOKED

In this context, a total of 403 students had their diplomas revoked: 120 for not meeting the registration requirements for formal secondary education institutions and for the equivalency documents they presented during registration not being found in the Ministry's records; 50 who were graduated despite not attending school; 101 for being given false and fictitious grades; and 132 who were determined to have graduated despite not attending the 12th grade.

398 STUDENTS WERE RETURNED TO THE PREVIOUS GRADE LEVEL

Additionally, during the inspections, it was found that 282 students at the secondary education level and 116 students at the middle school level did not attend school regularly, yet the administration did not process their absence records, and false grade entries were made despite not participating in exams. Accordingly, 398 students whose class promotion processes were canceled were returned to the previous grade level.

LICENSES OF 6 PRIVATE SCHOOLS THAT ESTABLISHED "GHOST CLASSES" WERE REVOKED

Furthermore, MEB conducted inspections regarding private schools that established "ghost classes" for 12th-grade students who do not meet the conditions for transitioning to open high school but wish to prepare for university entrance exams with full-time courses, where lessons were not taught and absences were not taken into account. In this context, the operating licenses of 6 private schools that committed violations of the regulations were revoked. It was learned that the Ministry's inspections regarding the educational processes and activities in private schools would continue.
