Yüksekova district of Hakkari became the coldest point in Turkey with a temperature of minus 32.7 degrees. Vehicles froze in the district, and icicles formed on the roofs of buildings. One of the district residents, Mikail Onay, said, "I haven't seen such cold in 30 years. I've been trying to start my vehicle for 3 hours in the mornings." Following Yüksekova, Erzurum and Ardahan recorded the lowest temperatures in Turkey.
After the snowfall, cold weather is affecting the Eastern Anatolia Region, while many cities have frozen. In measurements made by the Meteorology at night, the coldest settlement in Turkey was found to be the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, which is at an altitude of 1950 meters.
TEMPERATURE IN YÜKSEKOVA MINUS 32.7
The lowest temperature was measured at minus 32.7 degrees at Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport in the district. In Yüksekova, where vehicles froze, icicles formed on the roofs of buildings. While some covered their vehicles with tarpaulins, carpets, tents, and plastic to prevent freezing, others lit fires under their frozen vehicles to start them.
"I HAVEN'T SEEN SUCH COLD IN 30 YEARS"
Mikail Onay, who lives in the district center, said, "I haven't seen such cold in 30 years. I have been trying to start my vehicle in front of my house for 3 hours in the morning. Despite making a boost, I couldn't start it, so I left a fire in the engine compartment and was able to start it with the help of a boost after warming up the engine."
HAKKARI WAS FOLLOWED BY ERZURUM AND ARDAHAN
In the lowest temperatures, Yüksekova was followed by the rural Hacıömer neighborhood of Tekman district in Erzurum at minus 31.3, Ardahan Göle at minus 30.9, the rural Bezirhane neighborhood of Çaldıran district in Van at minus 30.4, and Karaçoban district in Erzurum at minus 29.9.
