In response to Ergül's claims that there was security at the hotel for 24 hours, the employees said, "We did not see a security guard working at night."

NUMBER OF ARRESTS RISES TO 28
As the number of those detained in connection with the hotel fire, which involved major negligence, has risen to 28, I.E., a housekeeping staff member of Gazelle Hotel, another establishment owned by Halit Ergül, has also been detained.
EMPLOYEES CONTRADICTED THE BOSS'S STATEMENT
According to a report in Sabah newspaper, the hotel owner Halit Ergül, who was arrested after the disaster, claimed, "There are security guards in the hotel 24 hours a day, they would press the alarm in case of a fire," but this was contradicted by the statements of other employees, who said that the security guard he referred to did not work at night.

Baker Mehmet Gündüz stated, "I did not see a security guard at the time of the incident. As far as I know, there is a security guard who works during the day at the hotel. I know his name is Mehmet. I do not know his last name."

Faysal Yaver, one of the chefs preparing breakfast at night, also stated, "There is no one introduced to me as being assigned for the fire at the hotel. I do not know such a person, but I was told to provide food to two people because I was working at night. These individuals were the night staff working at the reception. Other than that, I do not know any staff responsible for the floors. Generally, two people from the reception would take the prepared food. I did not see a security guard working at night in the hotel. If there were, they would have taken food from us because they were working at night," he said.
