An expert report has been prepared in the investigation into the death of Beren Su Bolat, who was trapped in an elevator in Ankara. The report stated that the firefighters were responsible for the accident. Beren Su Bolat, who went to the apartment where her classmate lived on 4th Avenue in Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood of Sincan district in Ankara, got trapped in the elevator between the 5th and 6th floors with her friend on July 23. Beren Su fell into the elevator shaft and died while her friend was rescued during the rescue operation by the firefighters who arrived after the notification. An investigation was initiated against 3 firefighters for "causing death by negligence" in relation to Beren Su's death. E.A., the chief of the fire department, and firefighters B.Y. and B.B. were suspended as part of the administrative investigation initiated by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. "THE RECKLESS BEHAVIOR OF THE FIREFIGHTERS IS THE MAIN ELEMENT OF THE INCIDENT"The expert report prepared for the accident has been submitted to the file. The report stated that the accident could have been prevented with safety measures, careful and diligent behavior, and the principle of inevitability did not apply. It was emphasized that the malfunction of the elevator was a dangerous situation and "the main element of the incident is the reckless behavior of the firefighters who, instead of preventing the accident, exhibited dangerous behavior by not taking the necessary safety measures and not controlling the dangerous situation while rescuing the 2 children aged 13 and 14." The report stated that the main and fundamental cause of the accident was the failure to take necessary safety measures, negligence, and carelessness during the rescue of the 2 people trapped in the elevator. THE ELEVATOR'S MAINTENANCE DATE WAS 18 DAYS OVERDUEIt was emphasized that no precautions were taken for the approximately 80-centimeter gap under the elevator cabin and that the rescue operation of the elevator trapped between the 5th and 6th floors should have been carried out on the 6th floor. The report also stated that the elevator's last maintenance date was 48 days ago and exceeded the monthly maintenance period of 30 days by 18 days. It was also emphasized in the report that there were no rescue instructions around the elevator where the accident occurred. "HE SAID HE COULDN'T HOLD THE CHILD"Özkan Bolat, Beren Su's father, said, "Elevators have a maintenance period, and the maintenance period has been 18 days overdue. A legal process will start regarding this. Let the responsible parties receive the necessary punishment. There is a chain of negligence, or rather, I won't call it negligence because this is a murder. The rescue operation is carried out without taking any precautions. Despite people warning the firefighters, one of the team members scolded them, saying 'are you going to teach us our job,' and caused this incident," he said. Ayşe Bolat, Beren Su's mother, described her last phone conversation with her daughter, saying, "Beren called me and said, 'we are stuck in the elevator.' I thought that the staff would come and open the elevator because it had happened a few times before. We were in constant communication, and then I called Beren and asked, 'did the staff come?' The staff came after about 15 minutes, but they couldn't open the elevator. Beren called and said, 'they will come from another place, they will rescue us.' I called again 15 seconds later to ask 'did you get out,' her friend answered the phone and said that Beren had fallen. All of this happened in a very short time. When we arrived, the fire department was there. There was a staff member at the entrance of the building. I was calling 'Beren.' The man at the door told me, 'he couldn't hold the child.' Beren had won the school she wanted to attend. She had dreams, she wanted to be a plastic surgeon," she said.
