Satılmış Demir, who shot and killed his daughter-in-law Derya Demir in the Altındağ district of Ankara, was sentenced to 25 years and 3 months in prison for 'intentional murder against a woman' and 'possession of an unlicensed firearm.'
During the hearing at the Ankara 16th High Criminal Court, the detained defendant Satılmış Demir, his grandchildren, and the lawyers of both parties attended. After the court president read the documents that had come into the case file, he stated that the opinion on the merits had been entered into the case file during the recess. The prosecutor indicated in the opinion that the defendant had committed the act as per his own confession and requested that the unjust provocation rule not be applied due to the fact that the victim was not the spouse of Demir. He also stated that Demir's arrival at the scene with an unlicensed pistol would not constitute unjust provocation.
The prosecutor requested that Demir be punished for 'intentional murder against a child or a person who cannot defend themselves physically or mentally,' 'intentional murder against a woman,' and for the crime of 'possession of an unlicensed firearm' under Law No. 6136.
"I SAW INAPPROPRIATE THINGS BELONGING TO MY DAUGHTER-IN-LAW"
The complainant's lawyer stated that they agreed with the opinion. The defendant Demir, who was given the floor, said, "I saw inappropriate things belonging to my deceased daughter-in-law. I lost my mind, I took my gun from the car and came. I regret it."
"IF I HADN'T BEEN IN THE MILITARY, I WOULD HAVE KILLED"
Detained defendant Satılmış Demir's grandson O.A.D. stated, "A person lives for their honor and bread. When the incident happened, I was in the military. If I hadn't been in the military, I would have been in my grandfather's place. I don't know my mother's grave; my hatred and anger will never end." Afterward, when asked for his final words, Demir stated, "I have nothing to say; the court's discretion is yours."
UNJUST PROVOCATION DISCOUNT APPLIED
After the statements, the court announced its decision, sentencing the detained defendant Satılmış Demir to 1 year and 3 months in prison for the crime of 'possession of an unlicensed firearm.'
