Özel Birinci Hastanesi had previously come to light with a heartbreaking incident before the newborn scandal that shook Turkey. Nurse Selen Bilgin, who was staying as a companion with her grandfather, lost her life due to a medication injected into her. Correspondence between the doctor who injected the medication into Bilgin and the Newborn gang has come to light. Despite being mentioned in the investigation, the fact that this doctor is still walking free has outraged the young nurse's family.

On May 13, an incident occurred in Beylikdüzü, Istanbul, where nurse Selen Bilgin, who was staying as a companion next to her grandfather at the now-closed Özel Birinci Hospital, died as a result of a drug injected into her. It was determined that Bilgin entered the room of the doctor she knew, Fatih Akın, before her death. The investigation into the incident has been completed, and a report has been prepared. In the prepared report, it was requested that doctor Fatih Akın be sentenced to life imprisonment for "intentional killing." Additionally, conversations between the suspect doctor Akın and a member of the organization who is a defendant in the Yenidoğan Çetesi case have also emerged.

REPORT PREPARED

The investigation into the death of nurse Selen Bilgin, who died at the now-closed Özel Birinci Hospital on May 13, 2024, as part of the case opened against the Yenidoğan Çetesi, has been completed, and a report has been prepared. In the report prepared by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Selen Bilgin's father Serkan and mother Nergül Bilgin are listed as complainants, while Fatih Akın is listed as a suspect. The report states that on May 13, 2024, Selen Bilgin stayed as a companion next to her grandfather at the closed Özel Birinci Hospital. It was recorded in the report that Bilgin went to the room of doctor Fatih Akın, who was working as an anesthesiologist at the same hospital on the day of the incident. The report also noted that in the video footage, Fatih Akın exited the room excitedly while talking on the phone one hour after Selen Bilgin entered the room.

"SHE DIED DUE TO MULTIPLE DRUG INTOXICATION"

The report stated that Bilgin was taken out of the room by hospital staff on a wheeled patient bed around 07:00 in the morning. It was also reflected in the security camera footage that heart massage was performed on Bilgin by doctor Tevfik K., and artificial respiration was performed by the suspect doctor Fatih Akın. The cause of Bilgin's death was stated as "multiple drug intoxication" in the Forensic Medicine Institution report. In his statement, suspect doctor Fatih Akın said, "I did not give the victim any medication. Selen Bilgin used this medication herself." "I realized that I had lost Selen. I tried to revive her." Furthermore, a witness named Muzaffer U. stated, "I called Fatih Akın on the phone. When he said, 'We lost Selen,' I asked, 'What do you mean?' He told me, 'Selen had a headache, I gave her a painkiller serum.' When I asked, 'How is that possible?' he said, 'I gave Selen a low dose of propofol.' As far as I know, propofol is not a medication commonly used for those suffering from insomnia. Doctor Fatih told me, 'I first applied a painkiller, but Selen called me saying she couldn't sleep again and asked for this medication. After applying it, I waited by her side for 2-3 hours. During that time, she fell asleep and woke up. Then I left the room. When I came back, I realized that I had lost Selen. I tried to revive her,' he told me."

Conversations from the case of nurse Selen Bilgin's death related to the 'Yenidoğan gang' emerged

REQUEST FOR LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The report stated that although Fatih Akın was serving as a doctor, he did not act with the intention of treatment in the incident that led to Selen Bilgin's death due to the administration of medication. It was requested that Akın be sentenced to life imprisonment for "intentional killing." The prepared report was sent to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the preparation of an indictment.

CONVERSATIONS REVEALED IN TAPE RECORDINGS

Additionally, phone conversations between Fatih Akın and a member of the organization were revealed in the indictment prepared against the Yenidoğan Çetesi. In a conversation where Hakan Doğukan Taşçı, one of the organization members, called Fatih Akın, Taşçı said, "Doctor, I have a question. We have a baby who was discharged but is now trying to be readmitted to intensive care due to a one-day loss, but we can't admit her because of that one-day loss. I spoke with the medical accounting manager and Nehir, and they said if Fatih doctor gives the approval, there is no problem for us. Can I open a follow-up through an adult?" Akın asked, "We can open a follow-up through an adult, right?" Taşçı replied, "I will open the follow-up and delete it, doctor." In another part of the conversation, Taşçı said, "The child has been wasted outside, the child is in a remote situation," to which Akın responded, "I understand." Taşçı also mentioned, "I spoke with the medical accounting manager, and he said we will open a record through an adult and delete the follow-up, then we will convert it to a newborn," to which Akın replied, "Yes, that works." Fatih Akın said, "Let's take her to intensive care; if they ask us, we can say we had to take her urgently, you understand? There won't be a problem, okay?" Taşçı responded, "Okay, okay, doctor," as recorded in the tape.

"THEY GAVE ME MY CHILD'S CORPSE"

Speaking about the incident, Selen Bilgin's grieving mother, Nergül Bilgin, said, "She was supposed to stay as a companion next to her grandfather in the evening. She said, 'I am an intensive care nurse; I can take better care of my grandfather.' In the morning, they gave me my child's corpse. Anesthesia was applied to my daughter. At first, they did not tell us that anesthesia was applied. They told us later. The suspect doctor had a prior acquaintance with my daughter. They had also worked in the same department. He applied anesthesia to my daughter in his room. Fatih Akın killed my child with a needle and anesthesia related to the baby gang." "This man is being tried for life imprisonment, but he can still walk around freely."

The family's lawyer, Bahaeddin Özdemir, stated, "Finally, the Forensic Medicine Institution report regarding the murder of Selen Bilgin has arrived. According to the Forensic Medicine Institution report, the cause of Selen's death is recorded as multiple drug poisoning. It was revealed that the last drug that entered Selen's blood was propofol, and it was done by Fatih Akın. In his initial statements, Fatih claimed that he did not administer propofol, did not inject it, and did not procure it. However, as a result of a meticulous investigation conducted by the prosecutor's office, a number of evidence was obtained. One of these was the search conducted in the room where Selen's death occurred. During that search, it was revealed that the serum used by Selen, with her vein opened, was found on the nightstand in the room. In other words, it was not attached to Selen's arm; it had been removed. In the video recordings showing the door, it was also determined that Fatih Akın was trying to take something outside. He probably could not remove the serum. The ampoule of the medication administered was found in Fatih Akın's pocket. Upon our objections, the prosecutor's office initially requested immediate detention, but we could not secure the detention.

The court decided that it was not appropriate for Fatih Akın to be arrested at that moment due to the death being classified as suspicious. But now, the death has ceased to be classified as suspicious.

A summary of the case was prepared against Fatih Akın for the crime of causing Selen's death with possible intent, and it was sent to Bakırköy for the preparation of an indictment. This man is being tried for life imprisonment, yet he can still roam freely. It's hard to believe. Even in cases of simple injuries, courts decide to arrest without hesitation. Interestingly, this man is also mentioned in the Newborn investigation related to the baby deaths that occurred at the hospital while he was working at the First Hospital. Fatih Akın is in a close relationship with the defendants who caused the deaths of babies along with other brokers there. It is clearly evident that he was involved in irregularities in certain billing processes," he said.
