The historical structure built by Grand Vizier Öküzcü Mehmet Pasha in the early 1600s in Eyüpsultan was abandoned and turned into an aluminum joinery and tire shop. While the signs mounted on the building were removed by municipal teams, the tradespeople in the historical building protested, and the structure, which was converted into the tire industry instead of tourism, was seen in this way. In Eyüpsultan Topçular, a fountain, prayer house, and karagöz house were built by Grand Vizier Öküzcü Mehmet Pasha in the early 1600s. The prayer house and karagöz house built by Öküzcü Mehmet Pasha, who served as grand vizier during the reigns of Sultan Ahmed I and Osman II, fell into disuse over the years. The karagöz house, adjacent to the fountain and prayer house restored in 2010, was put up for sale years ago and became private property. Today, the historical structure rented by tradespeople is used as an aluminum joinery and tire shop. Teams could not close the aluminum joinery and tire shop in the historical structure because it is private property. While the teams were removing the signs added to the historical structure later, the tradespeople protested this situation. The 400-year-old artifact, which was converted into a tire shop instead of tourism, was captured in aerial footage. "THE PUBLIC AND TRADESPEOPLE MUST COME TOGETHER TO CREATE A SOLUTION"Archaeologist Ömer Faruk Yavaşçay, who provided information about the historical structure, stated, "Mehmet Pasha should not be confused with Sokullu Mehmet Pasha. They are different personalities. Öküzcü Mehmet Pasha served as grand vizier during the reigns of Ahmed I and Osman II. He is an important figure in Ottoman history. He also married the daughter of Ahmed I. He was born in the Karagümrük district. His father was a blacksmith, and he got this nickname because of that. He entered the palace at a young age. He was educated at the Enderun school. As the years passed, he rose in rank and eventually reached the position of grand vizier. He commissioned historical artifacts in various places in the Ottoman Empire. One of the historical artifacts is the fountain we see behind us. This place consists of 3 parts: the fountain section in front, the prayer house behind, and the karagöz house on the side. The artifacts were built between 1615 and 1618. Currently, it is somewhat neglected. The fountain is half a meter below ground level. The prayer house section is dirty and littered. Additionally, the karagöz house is also used as a tire shop. The fountain is a public structure, while the buildings behind it are private property. The tradespeople here are experiencing difficulties. The public needs to come together with the tradespeople to create a solution. Because the tradespeople have also had their signs removed, they are complaining about this situation. In other words, there are unpleasant images here that need to be addressed," he said.
