Donald Trump, who was elected as the 47th President of the United States, made his first appointment. Trump appointed Elise Stefanik, a member of the House of Representatives, as the United Nations (UN) Permanent Representative. According to reports in the US press, Trump stated regarding his decision, "Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart 'America First' warrior." ONE OF HIS MOST LOYAL ALLIESThe 40-year-old Stefanik, who is a member of the House of Representatives, has long been known as one of Trump's most loyal allies in the House. Stefanik was among the names seen as potential vice presidential candidates for Trump. Growing up in upstate New York, Stefanik worked in the domestic policy council and the office of the chief of staff during the administration of former President George W. Bush after graduating from Harvard University. In 2014, at the age of 30, she was elected to Congress and became the youngest woman to serve in House leadership. KNOWN FOR HER PRO-ISRAEL STATEMENTSDuring a session titled "Holding Campus Presidents Accountable and Combating Antisemitism" held on December 5, 2023, in the US Congress Education and Workforce Committee, three university presidents faced pressure from Republican lawmakers, claiming that student protests against Israel and the US administration on campuses were "antisemitic" and that these demonstrations should not be allowed. Stefanik, who stands out with her pro-Israel statements, aggressively questioned the presidents during the sessions, and following the ongoing pressure, Harvard University President Claudine Gay and University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill resigned in December 2023. Stefanik, who played a role in the resignations of the presidents, earned Trump's praise.
