After leaving the area where she was camping in the Erdek district of Balıkesir, 33-year-old Elif Kumal, who has been missing for days, has not been heard from. Her boyfriend has been taken into custody. Additionally, a part of the oil pan protection believed to belong to Kumal's vehicle has also been found.
Elif Kumal, who went camping with her boyfriend E.G. in the Yukarıyapıcı Lake area of the Kapıdağ Peninsula on December 27, has been missing after leaving the area in her own vehicle following a brief argument. She is being searched for by gendarmerie, fire department, AFAD, and 911 Search and Rescue Association teams.
PART OF HER VEHICLE FOUND Teams examining the recordings from nearby security cameras determined that Kumal's vehicle did not pass through the checkpoints towards Erdek or Bandırma. Off-road teams familiar with the area are also supporting the operations, which involve the use of drones and tracking dogs. Teams scanning the forested area and the lake found a part of a car protection cover believed to belong to Kumal's vehicle. Teams conducting search operations in the area with an unmanned aerial vehicle at night are continuing their efforts in the forested areas of Belkıs, Yukarıyapıcı, Ballıpınar, and Kirazlı Monastery.
HER BOYFRIEND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY As part of the investigation, gendarmerie teams took Kumal's boyfriend E.G. into custody. It has been learned that E.G. is undergoing processing at the gendarmerie.
"WE CONTINUE OUR INVESTIGATION" Erdek District Governor Hasan Göç told reporters that they have not yet reached Elif Kumal. Stating that they are working in the area with a large number of teams, Göç said: "We are continuing our work in the region with a total of 350 people, including 150 from our gendarmerie and 200 from other public institutions and non-governmental organizations, along with underwater rescue teams. We are evaluating all possible alternatives and continuing our investigation step by step, following all traces in detail from the area where the incident occurred outward. No matter how long it takes, our state intends to find this girl safe and sound and deliver her to her family. We thank all our friends who are working selflessly. I wish patience to the family of our girl. Hopefully, this will end in a joyful way."
Kumal's brother, İbrahim Kumal, also stated that he works in Konya and came as soon as he heard that his sister was missing. Expressing that the entire area is being searched, Kumal said, "So far, there is no trace at all. If there was an accident or something, the routes she could take are clear. She would have been found by now. We are also following the search operations in the area with the teams." he said.
Balıkesir Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Colonel Murat Özer also came to the region to receive information from the teams about the operations.
