Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who was arrested as part of a drug investigation, gave a statement again today under the provisions of effective remorse. It was reported that Ersoy admitted to using drugs in his statement; he was quoted as saying, "Today, Akif the journalist feels great remorse for what he has done to Akif the human, to his human brothers, to society, and to his creator, and he is deeply sorry."

Many names, including the former General Director of Habertürk TV, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, were detained on December 9 as part of a drug investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

Ersoy, along with Mustafa Manaz, Ufuk Tetik, and Ebru Gülan, for whom the prosecutor requested arrest, was arrested on December 11 on charges of "facilitating drug use" and "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime."

Ersoy's hair and blood samples tested 'positive' for drugs, with 'Cocaine and its metabolites' found in the hair samples taken from him.

ADDITIONAL STATEMENT GIVEN

Today, a significant development occurred. Ersoy was brought to the courthouse to provide an additional statement from prison. It was learned that Ersoy wanted to benefit from the effective remorse provisions. Ersoy gave a statement to the public prosecutor conducting the investigation for about 3 hours.

CONFESSED TO USING DRUGS

Wanting to give a statement to become a whistleblower, Ersoy confessed to using drugs. It was noted that Ersoy also provided information about drug parties and requested his release.

It was recorded that Ersoy said, "Today, journalist Akif feels great remorse for what he has done to Akif the human, his human brothers, society, and his creator, and he is deeply apologizing."

RETURNED TO PRISON

However, in the evaluation made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Ersoy's drug use was already confirmed by the report provided by the Forensic Medicine Institution, and since the parties held in the rented house were also known, Ersoy's statement did not contribute to the investigation. Ersoy was sent back to the prison where he was previously detained.
