A cold wave coming from Russia and the Balkans has affected all of Turkey. With the increase in the intensity of snowfall, schools were closed in many provinces on the last day of the year.
Here are the cities where schools have been announced to be closed.
SİVAS
Due to the expected heavy snowfall in Sivas, the Governorship announced that all public and private educational institutions in the province would be closed for 1 day on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
According to data obtained from the General Directorate of Meteorology, measures have been taken against potential disruptions in transportation and daily life due to the expected heavy snowfall starting from tomorrow morning in Sivas. The Sivas Governorship announced that all formal and non-formal educational institutions, including public and private schools, would be closed for 1 day on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Under this decision, nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational training centers, maturation institutes, private teaching courses, and special education and rehabilitation centers were closed. In the statement from the governorship, it was noted that female personnel with children attending nurseries and kindergartens would be considered on administrative leave on the day schools are closed, while the situation in units working on a 24-hour basis, such as health and security, would be evaluated by the relevant supervisors. It was also announced that public employees with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and pregnant women would also be considered on administrative leave. The statement emphasized that the decision was made to ensure the safety of citizens and to prevent potential grievances.
ŞIRNAK
In Şırnak, schools will also be closed tomorrow due to snowfall.
In a statement from the Şırnak Governorship, it was stated, "Due to heavy snowfall and icing in Şırnak center and our districts, public and private nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational training centers, non-formal education institutions, private teaching courses, and special education and rehabilitation centers have been closed for education across the province on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, by our governorship's decision. Public employees with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and pregnant women will be considered on administrative leave on the days when education is suspended in schools."
KARABÜK
In Karabük, education has been suspended for 1 more day due to heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions. Thus, education has been suspended for the third consecutive day in the city.
In a statement from the Karabük Governorship, it was noted that the snowfall and the risk of icing continue throughout the province. It was reported that on Wednesday, December 31, all types and levels of public and private formal and non-formal educational institutions, special education and rehabilitation centers, private education courses, and public education centers would be closed for 1 day.
It was also stated that pregnant personnel and personnel with disabilities working in public institutions and organizations would be considered on administrative leave on the same day.
Schools had already been closed on Monday and Tuesday due to heavy snowfall in the city.
DİYARBAKIR
In Diyarbakır, schools will also be closed tomorrow due to snowfall.
In a statement from the Diyarbakır Governorship, it was stated, "According to meteorological data, starting from the morning hours of Wednesday, December 31, strong and locally heavy snowfall is expected to affect our province, along with a significant drop in air temperatures, leading to severe icing and frost events. Considering the potential disruptions and possible delays, all public and private educational institutions, as well as nurseries and daycare centers, will be closed for 1 day on Wednesday, December 31. On the same date, public personnel with disabilities and pregnant women will be considered on administrative leave."
EDUCATION SUSPENDED AT DICLE UNIVERSITY AS WELL
In a statement from Dicle University, it was announced that education and teaching activities would also be suspended tomorrow due to snowfall, icing, and frost events.
It was noted that the exams scheduled for tomorrow would be planned to be held at a later date by the relevant academic unit boards, and that personnel with disabilities and pregnant women would also be considered on administrative leave on Wednesday, December 31.
KIRŞEHİR
In Kırşehir, it was announced that schools would be closed tomorrow due to adverse weather conditions.

In a statement from the governorship, it was reported that on Wednesday, December 31, education and teaching would be suspended for 1 day in primary and secondary schools (preschool, primary school, secondary school, and high school) across the province. BOLU
In Bolu, education has been suspended for 1 more day due to heavy snowfall and the risk of icing.
Heavy snowfall, which has been ongoing for 3 days in Bolu, has negatively affected life. With the rainfall, the city center and high areas were covered with a white blanket, while road and municipal teams started working to prevent disruptions in transportation. As of today, the snowfall has lost its effect and given way to sunny weather. Due to more than 50 centimeters of snowfall in the city center, education has also been suspended on Wednesday, December 31.
In a written statement regarding the issue from the governorship, it was stated, "Due to the ongoing heavy snowfall, icing, and adverse weather conditions throughout our province; on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, education and teaching will be suspended for 1 (one) day in all our public and private educational institutions (including rehabilitation centers, motor vehicle driver courses, and Quran courses). Pregnant and disabled personnel working in public institutions, as well as female personnel with children attending nurseries, kindergartens, and special education institutions, will also be considered on administrative leave on the same day."
However, the situation of the personnel working in units that provide services on a 24-hour basis, especially health and safety units, will be evaluated by the relevant unit managers as required by the service. It is hereby announced to the public.
GAZIANTEP
It has been announced that schools will be closed tomorrow due to the expected heavy snowfall in Gaziantep over the next 2 days.
Gaziantep Governor Kemal Çeber announced that the decision to close schools was made due to the expected heavy snowfall in the city over the next 2 days. In a statement on his social media account, Governor Çeber said, "Dear students. In recent days, especially today, my phone has not stopped ringing. We have evaluated your requests that you conveyed to me in person and through social media. By combining the information we received from meteorology, our assessments, and the requests that reached us from your pure hearts, we decided to close schools across the province tomorrow together with your administrative uncles from the relevant units. Education is undoubtedly very important, but you should enjoy the snow during the last days of 2025. I love you all."
The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a warning for heavy snowfall in Gaziantep and the region for the next 2 days. Snowfall is expected to start affecting the city from the night hours.

Schools in Siirt were closed on Wednesday due to snowfall.
In a statement from the Siirt Governorship, it was stated, "Due to the expected heavy snowfall across the province on Wednesday, December 31, and the forecast that the air temperature will drop significantly during the night and morning hours, leading to an increase in icing and freezing events, all official and private educational institutions, as well as private kindergartens, daycare centers, and rehabilitation centers in the province will be closed for 1 day. Additionally, mothers working in public institutions with children aged 0-6, as well as disabled, handicapped, and pregnant public personnel will be considered on administrative leave."
KAHRAMANMARAŞ
The Kahramanmaraş Governorship announced that education would be suspended for 1 day on Wednesday, December 31, due to the expected adverse weather conditions across the city.
In a statement from the governorship, it was stated, "Education and training will be suspended for 1 day in all official and private educational institutions in Kahramanmaraş on Wednesday, December 31. BİTLİS
The Bitlis Governorship announced that education would be suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday due to adverse weather conditions.
In a statement from the governorship, it was noted that according to data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, icing is expected on Tuesday, December 30, along with extreme cold, and heavy snowfall is expected on Wednesday, December 31.
The statement included the following: "To prevent our citizens and students from experiencing hardship, education and training will be suspended for 2 days in all schools and institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, as well as in daycare centers, rehabilitation centers, and other educational institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services in our city center and districts. Personnel working in public institutions who are disabled, handicapped, or pregnant will also be considered on administrative leave."
BATMAN
In Batman, education has been suspended for tomorrow due to snowfall and adverse weather conditions.

Therefore, it was reported that education would be suspended for 1 day in all official and private educational institutions in the province, and disabled and pregnant public personnel would also be considered on administrative leave on the same day.
MALATYA
In Malatya, education has been suspended for tomorrow due to snowfall, blizzard, and the risk of icing.
According to a statement from the governorship, due to the expected heavy snowfall, blizzard, and icing risk that will be effective in the province, all official, private formal and non-formal educational institutions, rehabilitation centers, and Quran courses will be closed for 1 day on Wednesday, December 31, to ensure the safety of citizens.
The statement also noted that pregnant and disabled personnel working in public institutions, mothers with children attending kindergarten, and personnel with chronic illnesses would also be considered on administrative leave on the same day.
KAYSERİ
In a statement from the Kayseri Governorship, it was reported that according to weather data, snowfall is expected to be effective tomorrow, and due to the risk of icing and freezing, it is assessed that the normal flow of life will be adversely affected.
To prevent possible adverse conditions that may arise due to weather conditions, it was announced that education would be suspended for 1 day. The statement included the following:

In a statement from the governorship, it was noted that due to heavy snowfall, education will be suspended in all formal and non-formal educational institutions throughout the city on December 31.
