The first duel in the presidential race: Harris and Trump shared their cards in a live broadcast.

In the US presidential race, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump expressed their divergent views on various topics, ranging from domestic politics to the economy, border security to foreign policy, in a heated first live debate.

As the countdown continues for the presidential elections in the United States on November 5th, Democratic candidate Harris and Republican candidate Trump shared their views in a live debate program aired on ABC News channel, which lasted about 1.5 hours.

At the beginning of the live broadcast, the two candidates shook hands, and throughout the heated debate, they presented different policy proposals, especially on the economy, abortion, and border security, which significantly differentiated them from each other.

MAIN TOPIC: ECONOMY

At the beginning of the program, the two figures mainly discussed the American economy, claiming that they had revived the economy during their own terms, but the other administration had ruined the country's economy. Harris, who described herself as coming from a middle-class family, reiterated the details of her previously announced economic program. She stated that she planned to increase the tax reduction for newly established companies from $5,000 to $50,000 and provide tax cuts of up to $6,000 for families with children.

Harris explained that they were working on significant incentives and tax reductions for small businesses and aimed to help the growth of existing small businesses. She also mentioned that they would provide low-interest or interest-free loans to small businesses that wanted to expand. Trump, on the other hand, claimed that they had created the best economy in American history during his own term and that the Biden-Harris duo had ruined it in a short time. He stated that for the past 2 years, the majority of the people had to struggle with inflation. Trump explained that he had brought back billions of dollars to the US from China through the customs duties he imposed on them and claimed that Biden removed these customs duties as soon as he took office. In response to Trump, Harris said, "Donald Trump left us with the worst unemployment since the Great Depression. Donald Trump left us with the worst public health epidemic in the last century."

Responding to Harris, Trump stated that this was not true and that the economy and employment were in good shape during his own term, and they also performed well during the COVID-19 pandemic. Harris reminded Trump of a report prepared by a Republican group called the "2025 Project," claiming that the items written in the report had the potential to cause great harm to the US. However, Trump claimed that he had no relationship with that group. At one point in his speech, Trump said, "She is a Marxist, everyone knows that. Her father was a Marxist professor, and he taught her well."

ABORTION DEBATE

In the heated part of the debate, which was about abortion, Harris and Trump expressed their opposing views to send messages to their own supporters. Harris emphasized that Trump was trying to take away women's right to abortion and that he had no right to do so. She gave the message that if she became president, she would take clear steps on this issue. Trump, who advocated for the ban on abortion after the 6th week, reiterated his previous statements and stated that decisions regarding abortion should be made at the state level, not at the federal level.

"PET EATING" DEBATE IN BORDER SECURITY SECTION

In the border security issue, which is one of the main topics of debate between Democrats and Republicans in the US, the two candidates had a serious discussion and presented very different perspectives. Trump claimed that the Biden administration easily allowed illegal immigrants from different countries to enter the border and that most of these people were criminals. He brought up the allegation that some illegal immigrants in the Springfield region of Ohio were eating the pets of local residents.

When the host reminded him that the allegation had been denied by the authorities, Trump repeated his claim, saying, "They are eating dogs in Springfield. The people who come there (illegal immigrants) are eating the pets of the residents." Trump blamed the Biden-Harris duo for border security and asked why Harris did not implement the measures she mentioned tonight during the 3.5 years of the Biden administration.

TRUMP'S STATEMENT: "I WILL END THE RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR IN 24 HOURS"

During the foreign policy section of the program, while the Russia-Ukraine war was mainly discussed, the candidates also shared their views on the situation in Gaza and the Middle East. Trump blamed the Biden administration for the Ukraine war, claiming that Harris had negotiated with Russian President Vladimir Putin three days before the war but failed.

Harris denied Trump's claim, stating that she did not negotiate with Putin but had multiple meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump, who claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours if elected president, said, "I want the war to end and millions of people not to die. Biden has no idea how to talk to Putin. He has no idea how to stop this war. I will make this agreement before I even become president." Trump also stated that Europe was the main party responsible for the situation in Ukraine and that these countries should pay more within the NATO alliance, just like he did. He said, "Biden and Harris, you don't have the courage to ask (increase the contribution) from Europe like I did."

Trump stated that the Biden administration blamed Russia because of Ukraine, but Biden approved the Nord Stream 2 pipeline between Russia and Germany and closed the XL pipeline in the US.
