In a statement from Okokrim's official website, it was reported that an investigation was initiated following the mention of Jagland's name in documents related to the Epstein investigation that became public.

The statement said, "Okokrim has launched an investigation against former Prime Minister, Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland on suspicion of serious corruption."

ALLEGATIONS OF GIFTS, TRAVEL, AND LOANS WILL BE INVESTIGATED

The statement emphasized that there are reasonable grounds for opening an investigation against Jagland, and in this context, during the periods he was in office:

Whether he accepted gifts,

Who covered the travel expenses,

Whether he provided loans or material benefits,

These matters will be examined in detail.

IMMUNITY OBSTACLE AND REQUEST TO THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

The statement reminded that Jagland has immunity due to being a former president of an international organization. Therefore, it was reported that Okokrim has requested the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate the necessary steps to lift Jagland's immunity.

DETAILS OF JAGLAND IN THE EPSTEIN DOCUMENTS

In the documents published as part of the Epstein investigation, which have resonated widely in the public, it was revealed that Jagland had been in close contact with Epstein.

It was noted that Jagland's name appeared in more than 2,000 documents, and in an email he sent to Epstein, he used the following expressions:

"I was with extraordinarily beautiful girls in Tirana (Albania). I am going to Jordan, Palestine, and Israel. I will return on Thursday."

VISIT TO EPSTEIN'S ISLAND IS ALSO ON THE AGENDA

In another email included in the documents, it was noted that Jagland planned to visit the island used and purchased by Epstein for his sexual exploitation and prostitution activities.

Jagland was the one who presented the Nobel Peace Prize to former U.S. President Barack Obama in 2009, during which time he served as the Chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
